Alberta Marie Mire Gilbert, 88, who had made her home with her niece, Linda and George Smith, 13595 6 C Road, Plymouth, Indiana for the past six years, coming from Lake Charles, La., has died. Marie died of natural causes at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2000, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind.
Born on May 15, 1912, in Acadia Parish, Mire, La., Marie was the daughter of Reo Sr., and Elda Savoy Mire. She attended schools in New Orleans and lived most of her life there and in Lake Charles, La.
She was married to Ernest Lavelle Gilbert. Ernest died in January of 1983.
For 25 to 30 years, Marie worked in the Commander’s Palace, a well-known restaurant in New Orleans. A dog breeder, she raised champion Cocker Spaniels. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Faith.
She is survived by her niece and nephew with whom she made her home, Linda and George Smith of Plymouth. Her sister-in-law, Pearlie A. Mire of Welsh, La., and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Reo Mire, Jr., a sister, Pearl Mire Cormier, two half-sisters, Edith Mire Martin and Theresa Mire. Six half-brothers, Joseph, Edwin, Eddie, Elie and Dupre Mire and Polite Campbell, also have died.
Graveside services will be held at Miller’s Cemetery, Starks, Louisiana at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2000. Father Keith Pellerin, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Vinton, La., will officiate.
Burial will be in Miller’s Cemetery, Starks, La.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind., together with Hixon Funeral Home, Vinton, La., are in charge of arrangements.
