Barbara A. “Barb” Gillenwater, 61, of 13781 Tyler Rd., Bremen, died of an unexpected heart attack at 6:52 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2002 , in St. Joseph Community Hospital , Mishawaka . Barb, a lifetime area resident, was born in Lakeville, Ind., on Oct. 19, 1940. She was the daughter of George and Beatrice Donathan Roush. She received her G.E.D. after attending Lakeville schools. She later received a certificate of Secretarial Science from the Michiana College of Commerce. On Aug. 6, 1994 , in the Olive Branch United Brethren Church in Lakeville, where she remained a member, Barb and Dale E. “Sonny” Gillenwater were married. Sonny died on March 3, 2000. Barb worked in the food services section of the Kaleidoscope Children’s Center in Plymouth. An avid reader, she enjoyed working with crafts, especially sewing and crocheting gifts for her family and friends. Barb is survived by two daughters: Debbie and Jim Roark and their daughters: Heather, Elizabeth and Samantha, all of Bremen, Ind., and Lynette Wiegand, Indianapolis, Ind. A brother, Keith and Donna Roush, Lakeville, Ind., and a sister, Pat and Arlen Holderread, Plymouth, survive as well. Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Sonny. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2002, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2002, in the funeral home. The Rev. Kevin Skaggs, pastor of the Oak Grove Missionary Church, Wakarusa, Ind., will officiate. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Always thinking of the children she worked with, memorial gifts in Barb’s memory may be made to the Kaleidoscope Children’s Center.
