Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Beverly Ruff Wyman on Saturday, February 25th from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth. Bev passed away at her home in the company and care of her family and Center for Hospice volunteers on Friday evening, February 17, 2012.
Bev, 79, said in a pre-arrangement interview, “I’ve had a blessed life. I had a wonderful husband and children. I have been blessed with a fantastic family and friends and I have no regrets.”
Bev, diagnosed with bone cancer in October, 2011, came home to Plymouth from her home in Bradenton, Florida in January. There she loved to be during our cold winter months to visit the ocean so she could walk and shell the beach at her very special place in this world, South Lido Beach. She stated, “I knew it was time to come home and I am good with that.”
Born in Plymouth, the daughter of Elson and Loretta (Handy) Ruff on November 28, 1932, Bev was a cheerleader and played the clarinet in the high school band. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1950.
She met Jerry Wyman, the love of her life, a Warsaw High School graduate, while in school. “It was a little odd,” she said, “being arch rival schools, but in that year, we discovered there were cute boys in Warsaw too …and vice versa.”
They were married in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Plymouth, on Sept. 5, 1953. Jerry passed away in August of 2001 after 48 years of marriage.
Bev worked at Treat’s For Her for 15 years and at Mary’s Shoppe in Culver, part-time, for 15 more.
A member of the Plymouth Country Club, she was an enthusiastic golfer, a member of Tri Kappa and the president of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was a life-long member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Plymouth.
Bev was extremely talented and interested in all sorts of crafts. She enjoyed every kind of craft that used her dexterous and skillful hands. She was a seamstress, making her daughter’s clothes as well as her own and creating bridesmaids, prom dresses as well as dance costumes. “I loved to sew,” she said. “I must have learned it from my grandmother.” Bev was also a collector of angels which showed greatly in her home. To her family and dear friends she was our “Angel” on earth, always putting others before herself. It’s a comfort to us now that she truly has her “wings” so she may continue to watch over us all.
Bev, always energetic, sunny and positive, will be greatly missed by her two children: Kimberly Miller (Steve McCombs), Covington, IN., and Thad Wyman (Lisa Tyler), Plymouth. Two grandchildren, Lauren Herrmann, Portland, OR., and Courtney Herrmann, Bloomington, IN., her brother, Bud Ruff and wife Rusty, Marco Island, FL., his children, Renee, Shelly, Ramona and Steven Ruff and Aunt, Joy Klapp, Winterhaven, FL., all surviving.
Bev has asked that any memorials in her name be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 112 S. Center St. Suite C, Plymouth, IN 46563 or The Boys & Girls Club of Marshall County, 314 E. Jefferson St., Plymouth, IN 46563, so that others may benefit.
