Clarice M. Spindler, 88 and Marshall county resident all her life, passed away surrounded by her loving family at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in the Hospice House of South Bend.
Clarice was born on March 17, 1927 in Rochester, Indiana to Estele J. and Bessie Idella (Kamp) Eshelman. While attending Plymouth High School, Clarice and a group of friends started the Sub-Deb Club that met once a month for lunch and once a year they invited their mother’s to join for tea. She was one of the last 3 ladies still living from this club.
On September 14, 1946, in Rochester, Indiana, Clarice would become the bride of Virgil J. Spindler. He would precede her in death on May 8, 2004.
She worked for American Optical for over 27 years, and then as a greeter at Walmart before her retirement in 1991. Clarice was a member of the Sunrise Church in Plymouth and the Red Hat Society. Virgil and she were season ticket holders for PHS basketball for many years. She enjoyed bird watching and talking with people. She treasured family time, and watching her grandchildren and attending their various events.
Clarice is survived by their children: Sheila (John) Rinkenberg, Melinda Honeycutt and Tom (Cheri) Spindler, all of Plymouth; Nancy (Tom) Huffman, Rochester and Doreen Spindler, Indianapolis; as well as, seventeen grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Larry, granddaughter, Joleen Spindler, and sisters: Jean Mitchell and Mary Duncan. There will be no visitation.
