Collin N. Smith, 88, died at his home, 11238 Hawthorn Road, Inwood, Indiana, on Thursday, August 10, 2006.
Collin was born in Winamac, Indiana, on March 4, 1918, the son of Thomas P. and Goldie Brown Smith.
He attended Washington School up until the 6th grade.
On June 26, 1944, he and his wife of 62 years, Valerie E. Conner Smith, were married in Plymouth.
A veteran of the United States Army, Collin was a truck driver for L.P. Gas for years, retiring in 1993 and for 10 years also working for the Marshall County Highway Department.
He also raised pigs and had a large, productive garden. He enjoyed Western T.V. and movies and was an enthusiastic fisherman.
Collin was a member of the American Legion and the local V.F.W. posts.
Collin is survived by his wife Valerie and by their two daughters and three sons.
His daughters are Kay E. Stephens, Akron, Ohio and Gloria N. Rader, Eaton, Ohio. His sons are Mervel Smith, Georgia: Dennis D. and Connie Smith, Plymouth, Indiana; and Corey and Amanda Bolinger, Bourbon, Indiana.
Ten grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
His grandchildren are: Kathy Marshall, Kentucky: Steven Wilcox, Indianapolis, Indiana; Tamy Shumaker, Richmond, Indiana; Kimberly Carico, Kentucky; Audi Bolinger, Inwood, Indiana; Debbie Hawes, South Carolina; Shawn Knisely, Akron, Ohio; Valerie Stephens, Akron, Ohio; and Christina Smith and Jake Smith, both of Plymouth, Indiana
A brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Donna Smith, South Bend, Indiana, survive as well.
Colin was preceded in death by his parents: a son, Cecil Smith, three brothers, two sisters and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be welcomed by the family to help to celebrate the life of Collin Smith on Monday, August 14, 2006, from noon to 3 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Collin will immediately follow visitation at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Gail Law, pastor of Inwood United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Military Graveside services will be accorded to Collin, by the American Legion Post 27, and VFW Post 1162, at Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, Indiana
Memorial gifts in Collin’s memory may be made to the Inwood United Methodist Church.
