Doris June Allen

December 31, 1935 — July 15, 2023

Doris June Allen, 87, of Plymouth, Indiana, left from her earthly residence to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 15, 2023. She was born in Hegewisch, Illinois, to Alva Ernest and Dollie Carline (Floyd) Wade on December 31, 1935, and was united in marriage to Charles C. (Curt) Allen on June 5, 1954, in Hammond, Indiana. They were married for 62 years until Curt’s passing in 2016.

June was a resident of Lansing, Illinois, for 40 years and resided in Plymouth, Indiana, for the past 19 years. She worked as a sales clerk manager for Highland (Indiana) Department Store for 11 years before retiring in 1982. Before joining Plymouth Wesleyan Church she was a member of Lansing Nazarene Church.

June is survived by three children: Charles E. “Chuck” (Denise) Allen, Plymouth, Kimber Lee (Douglas) Vaundry, New Carlisle, and Scott W. (Barbara) Allen of Livermore, California; eight grandchildren: Nicholas (Anna) Allen, Rachael (Chris) DeMarse, Jeffrey (Alleigh) Allen, Jessica (Jason) Feathers, Molly (Adam) Chenoweth, Kaleigh (Richard) Stradtner, Nicole Allen, and Brett Allen; fourteen great grandchildren: Lucas Willis and Zoey and Lydia Allen, Mackenzie, Teagan, Skylee, and Emery Feathers, Thatcher and Sawyer DeMarse, Dillon and Cadence Chenoweth, James Allen, and Madelyn and Eleanor Stradtner. She is also survived by a brother, Dale W. Wade of Lowell, and loving nephews and great nieces and nephews.

June was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dean and Dallas Wade; 3 sisters-in-law, Sarah (Dean), Mary (Dallas), and Diane (Dale); in-laws Oley and Vineta Allen; daughter-in-law, Susan Lynn Allen; nephew, Richard Wade; and niece, Carol Garcia.

June was an avid and skilled golfer who loved horses and enjoyed watching golf, horse racing, westerns, and other classic movies. Mom (Nonnie) was a great cook who loved to bake and prepare special, traditional dishes for holidays and family gatherings. It delighted her to share her recipes and show younger family members her cooking secrets. She loved hosting the family in their home and spending time with family and friends at their winter home in Florida.

June was a wonderful lady who touched many lives. Her joy and love of life were contagious! She had a great sense of humor, a warm smile, and an infectious laugh. You could often hear her humming while riding in the car or doing household tasks. She was generous with her time and in her giving and was a loyal and caring friend. She humbly accepted her serious visual impairment and led an active and independent life without complaining. She became a faithful caregiver to husband, Curt, during his battle with dementia.

June loved every member of her family unconditionally and made each one feel special! She was a light and rock for her family. Most importantly, she trusted in the Light and Rock of her life, the Lord Jesus Christ. She served Him faithfully through her local church and supported the church’s ministries. She looked forward to seeing her Lord face to face as she is doing now in heaven.
