Eli E. Miller, 91, 12403 3 A Rd., a Marshall County resident most of his life, died of natural causes, at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2001, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
Born in Bourbon, Ind., on January 7, 1910, Eli was the son of Rufus and Mary Catherine Hurford Miller. He graduated from Bourbon High School in 1930.
On September 4, 1938, he married Lillian Bernice Bixel.
Eli drove a bulk oil delivery truck for several years before becoming a bus driver for South Suburban Safeway Lines in Chicago, during World War II. He later worked for Farm Bureau Co-op as a mechanic and a salesman.
He also farmed for several years and was a foreman for E. E. Rowe & Son Fertilizer Company in Plymouth. He retired from LaPaz Elevator.
He enjoyed being busy and, in his later years, loved to garden. He enjoyed fishing and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
For many years he attended the County Line Church of the Brethren.
Eli is survived his wife, Bernice, and two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Kay Miller and Arthur and Elizabeth Miller, all of Plymouth.
Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive together with Louis and Myrtle Miller, a brother and sister-in-law of Mishawaka and Dorothy and Bud Schuster, a sister and brother-in-law of Plymouth.
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Eli was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Joseph and three sisters: Bertha Craig, Ruth Lemler and Catherine Schuster.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Larry Hanson, pastor of the County Line Church of the Brethren, at the funeral home, on Friday, March 23, 2001, at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Eli’s memory may be made to the Union-North Ambulance Service or the LaPaz Fire Department or to the County Line Church.
