Ernest L. “Ernie” Kreider, 94, Shamrock Lane, Bremen, Ind., a St. Joseph and Marshall County area resident most of his life, died following a brief illness, on Friday, August 3, 2001, at 6:30 a.m., in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Born in Perrysburg, Ind., on January 12, 1907, he was the son of Charles and Daisy Reed Kreider. He graduated from Twelve Mile High School with the class of 1925.
Ernie was first married to Gertrude Squires who preceded him in death in 1960. On June 22, 1969, he and Ardyce E. Trygg were married in North Liberty, Ind.
A farmer, Ernie also worked, until they closed, at Studebaker in South Bend.
He was an avid gardener and he loved to tinker with things.
A member of the Church of the Brethren in Bremen, Ind., he had taught Sunday School most of his adult life. Most recently, he taught the senior adult class in Bremen.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Ardyce, Bremen, and by five daughters: Charis Lynn Holderman, Plymouth, Linda S. and Jack Dietle, West Monroe, Louisiana, Carolyn Handley, Waco, Texas, Jennie L. and Richard DeJagher, South Bend and Betty and Wayne Weiss, Bremen, Ind.
Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive together with a niece, Sue and Bill Stokes of Rochester, Ind.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gertrude, a sister, Mary Smith and a nephew, Richard Smith.
Visitation with his family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2001, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth,
Indiana.
Funeral services for Ernie will be held, following visitation, in the funeral home on Sunday at 4 p.m. The Rev. Tom Hostetler, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, Bremen, Ind., will officiate.
Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery, Twelve Mile, Ind.
