Eugene "Geno" D. Helwig

Eugene “Geno” D. Helwig, 67, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka.

Born on June 21, 1956, in Burbank, Illinois, he was the son of Eugene and Catherine (Scheer) Helwig.

He attended Reavis High School in Burbank, Illinois graduating with the class of 1974. On June 16, 2009, he married Gail Hedderman in Illinois, she survives.

He worked for ADT and Johnson Controls as a Union Electrician until his retirement in 2022. Geno will always be remembered for his contagious laugh that drew so many people to his infectious soul. He was a man of wisdom that could literally fix anything with his hands.

He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, boating, and fishing. Geno was a Free Mason member of Evergreen Park Lodge #1171 A.F. & A.M in Oak Lawn, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife Gail; stepchildren: Bob (Emily) Brida; Stephanie Brida and Stacie Brida; grandchildren: Jonathan Errum, Anatasia Brida, Katarina Brida; siblings: Gerald (Chris) Helwig; Cathy (John) Lindquist; Lynn (Bill) Conroy; nephews: Jerry (Rachel) Helwig, William Conroy, John Lindquist; nieces: Bebe Lindquist and Kasey Conroy; as well as great-niece Bradie Mae Helwig.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
