Eva F. Crothers

October 20, 1902 — December 25, 2000

Eva F. Crothers, 98, 68120 State Road 23, North Liberty, a resident of Starke and St. Joseph counties most of her life, died, following an illness, at 3:42 a.m., in Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, on Christmas Day, December 25, 2000.  Eva had been a resident at the Manor since October of this year.

She was born in Ober, Indiana, on Oct. 20, 1902, the daughter of James and Elizabeth McDonald McGovern.  She attended Ober schools and also a business school in South Bend.

In 1933, in South Bend, Eva and Fred O. Crothers were married.  Fred died on August 13, 1945.

Eva was the payroll clerk for Wells Aluminum in North Liberty for 25 years, retiring in 1974.  Many years ago she had also worked at Studebaker in South Bend.

She liked to crochet and she shared the afghans and booties she made with family and friends.  Up until two years ago, she had her own garden and enjoyed growing things.  A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Walkerton, she enjoyed reading religious articles.

Eva is survived by two sons: Edward J. Crothers, Boulder, Colo., and Donald A. Crothers, Walkerton, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and six brothers.

Friends may visit with her family from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2000, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services in the funeral home will follow visitation at 2 p.m.  The  Rev. David Inskeep, pastor of the Tyner United Methodist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
