Evelyn B. Gurthet, 85, of 303 Baker Street passed away at 7:20 am on Sunday June 26, 2005 in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, Indiana.
Evelyn was born on October 10, 1919 in Marshall County, Indiana to Homer and Verda Rinkenberg Stoneburner.
On March 29, 1943 in Florence, South Carolina she was married to Lawrence “Don” Gurthet, Don passed away on February 19, 1998.
Evelyn worked for Del Monte Food, Plymouth, Indiana in the quality control department for 16 years retiring in 1981. Before her time with Del Monte, she was a homemaker, taking care of the house and raising their son, Larry. After retirement Evelyn spent the winter months in her Florida home in Sebring, Florida.
Evelyn was an excellent cook and made great cookies, she also canned most everything that her husband Don grew in the garden. Evelyn was very active in the Tyner United Methodist Church where she recently celebrated 65 years as an active member of the church.
Evelyn is survived by her son. Larry D. Gurthet, Plymouth, and three sisters: Helen Trowbridge, Palmyra, IN, Phyllis Holt, South Bend, IN and Eileen (Norman) Klinedinst, Plymouth, a brother: Homer Stoneburner, Plymouth, two granddaughters: Gennifer Messer, LaCrosse and Deborah Salamone, Newark, New York, survive as well, along with 5 great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, June 29 2005 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street Plymouth, and 1 hour prior to a 1:00 pm service on Thursday, June 30, 2005 in the Tyner United Methodist Church 4503 French Street Tyner, Indiana. The Rev. Cheryl Stratton, Pastor of the Tyner United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Tyner Cemetery.
