Lifetime Marshall County resident, formerly of West Madison St., Faye E. Metcalf, 88, of 9510 Collins Drive, Plymouth, for the past year and a half, died, following an illness, at 2:35 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in the Saint Joseph Medical Center, Plymouth. Faye was born on March 17, 1914 , in LaPaz , Ind. She was the daughter of Clarence C. and Fannie Mae Bachtel Couts. A 1932 graduate of LaPaz High School, she was the valedictorian of her class. On May 1, 1937 , in LaPaz, Faye and Ora Eldon Metcalf were married. Her husband died on April 1, 1970. Faye was a nurse’s aide. She first worked in the Teegarden Nursing Home, followed by service in the Walkerton Nursing Home and then 25 years of service at Pilgrim Manor, retiring in 1996. At the age of 77, she then became the oldest foot carrier of the Plymouth Pilot News, delivering papers for three years. She enjoyed crocheting, vegetable and flower gardening and playing the piano. Mostly though, she loved helping others. Her family, particularly her grandchildren were of great importance in her life. A member of the Teegarden 1st Brethren Church, she attended Gospel Lighthouse Church, Plymouth, where she played the piano. Faye is survived by a son and a daughter and their families. Her son is Eldon LaMar (Betty) Metcalf and her daughter with whom she resided, Barbara K. ( Gary ) Dunlap, all of Plymouth . Twelve grandchildren also survive. They are: Anette (Keith) Crandall, Bremen, Ind.; David LaMar (Jenny) Metcalf, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Terra L. Bunton, Brett Douglas (Michelle) Bunton, Kimberly Kreps and Tracey (Tim) Bittinger, all of Plymouth, Ind.; Jason James Dunlap, Ft. Campbell, Ky.; Melody (Scott) Keen, Columbus, Ind.; Kelly (David) Freet, Koontz Lake, Ind.; Christopher Lee (Angela) Dunlap and Brandon Lee Dunlap, all of Ft. Hood, Texas and Jeffrey Lee Dunlap, Mishawaka, Ind. Fifteen great-grandchildren survive, as well as her friend and caregiver, Cathy Rush of Plymouth . Faye was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Homer Couts, a brother and Chloedelle Finney, a sister. The family will welcome friends to share memories on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services for Faye will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, in the funeral home. The Rev. Patrick Puglisi, pastor of the Plymouth Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Morris Park Cemetery, Highway 6 West, LaPaz, Ind. Memorials in Faye’s memory may be made to the Marshall County Cancer Association, her Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
