Frances M. Houin, 91, passed away with family by her bedside at 4:35 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Elkhart Hospice House.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on July 1, 1926, Frances was the daughter of Nicholas and Catherine (Udelhofen) Fortmann. She graduated high school in Chicago before moving to the Marshall County area in 1947.
In Plymouth, Frances would marry Donald L. Houin on September 25, 1948 and make Argos their home. She helped Don farm their land for many years.
Fran would also work at Cards & Things, Bosworth and lastly at Treats for Her in Plymouth as a saleswoman until her retirement in 1988.
She was active in the Marshall County 4-H, a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and served as past president of St. Michael’s Altar Rosary Society.
Fran is survived by her husband, Don of Argos, and their children: Wayne N. (Mary Kay) Houin of Argos, Glen J. (Di-Ann) Houin of Argos, Cathy (Kevin) O’Keefe of Bremen and Jane A. (Dennis) Zeisig of Argos, as well as, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Agnes McGill, Joseph Fortmann and Robert Fortmann, and grandson, Zachery Houin.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday July 29, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 613 N. Center St. Plymouth. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. till the start of mass.
Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois at a later time.
