Francis D. Zink, 805 Baker Street, Plymouth, died of natural causes in the Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, on Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 1:15 a.m.
Born in Argos, Indiana, the son of Don and Fern Bennett Zink, on July 14, 1923, Francis graduated from Argos High School with the class of 1941.
On May 8, 1948, in Argos, Francis and Joan Neidlinger were married.
He worked in construction all of his life. He was a Highway concrete paving Superintendent for McMahan- O’Connor Construction in Rochester, Indiana, for over 30 years.
Francis loved sports. He was an amateur baseball player in Marshall County and won the MVP trophy in an independent tourney in Plymouth in 1948. He was good enough to get a try out with the old St. Louis Browns’ team.
In later years, he played softball and enjoyed the game of golf. He liked to work outside in his yard.
He served as a trustee of the Emmanuel Methodist Church, Culver, Indiana
Francis is survived by Joan, his wife of 59 years, and their three children, two sons and a daughter.
They are Ron and Mary Zink, Rochester, Indiana: Rex and Margaret Zink, Ray, Michigan, and Cheryll and Gary Wyne, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive as well, together with a brother, Morris Zink of South Bend, Indiana.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Audrey Zink.
The family invites friends to share memories and celebrate the life of Francis at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2007,
Funeral services for Francis, officiated by Ron Lewellen of the Emmanuel Methodist Church, Culver, will follow visitation at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos, Indiana on Monday, August 20, 2007, at 10 a.m. Memorial gifts in Francis’ memory may be given to the Emmanuel Methodist Church.
