Geneva A. “Gen” Bacon, 88, died unexpectedly at 10:44 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2002, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. A Plymouth resident since 1983, coming from Battle Creek, Mich., Gen, known as a sweet, kind-hearted person, will be missed by her many friends. She loved her church, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and served them well. Born in Mulkeytown, Ill., on Sept. 11, 1913, Gen was the daughter of Louie E. and Flora Agnes Overturf Lewis. She graduated from Sesser High School and earned a teacher’s certificate from University of Southern Illinois. On December 29, 1934, in Christopher, Ill., Gen and Kenneth D. Bacon were married. Kenneth, her beloved husband of almost 65 years, died on December 17, 1999. Gen worked with her husband for many years in motel management both in Mt. Vernon, Ill., and then in Battle Creek, Michigan’s Holiday Inn. A collector of Desert Rose dishes, she loved to cook and entertain her family and friends. She enjoyed duplicate bridge and played with the Plymouth Club for many years and with the Delts-Bridgarama fund-raisers. Gen, a dedicated Christian, was a Prayer Partner, a member of the Christian Women’s Club and the Seniors Group all with the Plymouth Wesleyan Church. In the Christopher Illinois Eastern Star Chapter, she served as Past Matron. Gen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Charlayne M. Bacon and by her grandson David M. and Kathy A. Bacon and their son, David Michael. A granddaughter, Kimberly D. and Phillip A. Scott and their children: Myles D., Mitchell P. and Meghan M. Scott, all of Plymouth. Two brothers, Louis Lewis Jr. and Max Lewis also survive together with two special nieces: Karol Harris and Don Repovich of Bellville, Ill, Gloria and Francisco Lara, Baton Rouge, La. and nephew; Jeff and Dianne Troutt and their daughter, great niece; Janelle of Christopher, Ill, along with numerous other nieces and nephews. Gen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters: Betty McNeill and Bertha Troutt and two brothers; Evan and Gene Lewis. Visitation with the family will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2002, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and for one hour prior to the services in the church on Tuesday. The Reverends Les Kephart and Robert Vardaman, pastors of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 S. Michigan St., Plymouth, will officiate at funeral services for Gen on Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial gifts in Gen’s memory may be made to the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.
