Gertrude M. Daugherty, 79, of Michigan Road, Plymouth, died of natural causes, after a long illness, at 10:20 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2004, in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind.
Gertrude was born in Grundy, Va., on February 22, 1925. She was the daughter of Henry Clay Meadows and Alta Meada Stiltner.
On August 17, 1943, she and Lazarus Daughtery were married. She was always proud of her husband, a coal miner for over 30 years. Lazarus died on August 2, 1984.
A housewife and homemaker, Gertrude also worked at Pilgrim Farms during the early 1970s.
She enjoyed doing things for her family of ten children: cooking, sewing, gardening and the necessary chores in raising a large family.
Gertrude loved to travel, she had visited most of the Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest areas of the United States.
Gertrude is survived by her ten children. They and their spouses are: Franklin(Sandy) Daugherty, Ohio; Vinia and Troy Helton, Walkerton; Larry (Linda) Daugherty, Kentucky; Gladys Heiman, South Carolina; Jerry Daugherty, Plymouth; Vivvian and Bill Britton, Plymouth; Terry Daugherty, LaPaz; Elden Daugherty, Nappanee; Walter Daugherty, Florida and Velvie Dominguez, Bourbon.
Eighteen grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren survive as well.
Five sisters also survive. They are Clarcy Meadows, Sarah Meadows, Opal Meadows, Elsie Biesemeyer and Evelyn Farmer.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.
Friends may visit with Gertrude’s family from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Funeral services, officiated by Ralph Dotson, of Claypool Full Gospel Tabernacle, will be Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, Indiana.
Interment will be in the Akron Cemetery, Akron, Ind.
