Gladys H. Pickerl

Gladys Helen Pickerl, 87, of 402 W. Jackson St., Bourbon, Ind., died from natural causes at 4:26 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2004 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth, Ind.

Gladys had been a resident of Marshall County most of her life, living in the LaPaz, Argos and Bourbon areas.

She was born the daughter of Dow Bliss and Rose Marie Reaume McGowan on June 4, 1916 at National City, Michigan. She attended Linkville and LaPaz, Indiana schools.

In August of 1934, in South Bend, Gladys became the bride of Lowell R. Pickerl. Lowell preceded her in death on April 20, 1970.

Gladys was a homemaker and worked for the South Bend School system and LaVille Schools as a laundry attendant. She retired in 1978 from LaVille Schools. She enjoyed animals, especially dogs and parakeets, and she also enjoyed flowers.

She had attended The Santa Anna United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three children, two daughters: Naomi Young of Wawaka, Ind, and Hattie Bierly of Atwood, Ind. and a son: Dwight Pickerl of Indianapolis, Ind. Six grandchildren and a great granddaughter also survive.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son: Lewis Pickerl, two sisters: Mildred M. Haines and Flora M. Haines and two brothers: Edward and Floyd McGowan.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Salem United Methodist Church, Bemen, at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home.

Memorial gifts in Gladys’ name may be made to the Humane Society, Bourbon E.M.S., or the Santa Anna United Methodist Church.
