Lifetime Plymouth resident Glenda L. Bockman, 74, peacefully passed away at the Wampler Senior Home in Bourbon, Indiana at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
Born in Plymouth, Indiana, Glenda was the daughter of Noble and Glendora (Eaton) Cochern. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1963. She then attended Ball State University and received her Bachelors in Education Degree in 1967.
On July 3, 1965, Glenda and John A. Bockman were married at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Plymouth. Together they shared 49 years of love, travels and memories.
A loving and dedicated wife and mother, she enjoyed raising her children: Elizabeth, Kathy, Philip and Jane. She enjoyed playing with her children and attending their various events. Her love for reading lead her to continue her education at IU-South Bend in the evenings and attained her Masters of Library Science in 1992.
After the kids were in school, she began working for Ancilla College in Donaldson as a librarian. A job she truly loved for 28 years. Glenda enjoyed the friendships she made with the students, staff and Sisters at Ancilla College. She retired in 2011, with a celebratory send-off and presentment of the “Glenda Bockman Archives Room”, which was named in her honor.
Glenda loved her grandchildren. Playing on the floor or reading them a book, they were her world. She was a lifetime member of Hoosier Old Wheels, St. Michael Parish and a doll collector; her favorite being Kewpie dolls.
She is survived by her four children: Elizabeth A. Gardner of Bourbon and her children, Kate and John; Kathy S. (Kirk) Nellans of Argos and their children, Emma, Ike and Grace; Philip O. (Becky) Bockman of Plymouth and their children, Anna, Rachel, Owen and Noble; and Jane L. (Brad) Hargrave of Tippecanoe and children, Jayden, Taytum and Callie; her mother, Glendora Cochern of Plymouth; and her siblings: Peg Holland of Bourbon, Carol (Greg) Harmon of TN, Tom Cochern of Plymouth, Jerry Cochern of Plymouth and Jim (Chris) Cochern of Plymouth.
Glenda was preceded in death by her husband John in 2014 and her father, Noble.
Due to the restrictions on social gatherings, there will be a graveside service on Monday, March 30, 2020 at the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
