Gordon D. Hartsell

October 9, 1955 — September 28, 2024

Plymouth

Gordon D. Hartsell, 68, passed away after a brief but courageous battle with cancer on September 28, 2024 at Ernestine M. Raclin House in Mishawaka. Born on October 9, 1955, he was the son of Lowell G. and Betty J. (Leitz) Hartsell.

Being high school sweethearts, Gordon and Sandra Lemert exchanged vows on May 13, 1978 in Walkerton at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Together they created a nurturing home for their three children: Katelyn, Jason and Brad. Their love story was a beautiful testament to the bond they shared, enduring through 34 wonderful years until Sandra's passing on March 16, 2013.

A dedicated worker, Gordon spent his days as a route delivery driver for renowned confectionary companies, including Little Debbie and Krispy Kreme, before retiring in 2021. His commitment to service extended beyond his career as he proudly served as the Walkerton Town Council President, embodying the spirit of community.

It was his role as a grandfather that truly defined Gordon's life. His grandchildren brought unparalleled joy to his days, and he lovingly passed on his passions for the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame Football. Creating lasting memories during family vacations, Gordon was an avid Disney enthusiast. He treasured the moments spent with his family, making every trip an adventure. Winters in Florida were filled with sun-soaked days, where he enjoyed biking with his bicycle club but also found joy in woodworking, fishing, and spending his afternoons on his favorite golf course.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Gordon will remember him for his warmth and kindness. He had a unique ability to connect with others, never meeting a stranger and always ready to lend a helping hand. The values he instilled in his children, especially the importance of hard work, remain a cherished part of their legacy, set to be passed down to future generations.

Gordon will be dearly missed by his children, Katelyn (Anthony) McGriff, Jason (Amanda) Hartsell, and Brad (Amanda) Hartsell; grandchildren, Haley, Holden, Logan, Bridger, Jane, Braxton, Caroline, and Presley; siblings, Greg (Kathy) Hartsell, Kenny (Peggy) Hartsell, and Suzanne (Steve) Stepke; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Sandra; parents, Lowell and Betty; and brother, Steven Hartsell.
