Harry “Cliff” Shearer Jr.

Harry C. “Cliff” Shearer Jr., 79, died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, March 09, 2006 of natural causes in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.

Born in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of Rev. Harry C. Sr. and Virgie M. (Tucker) Shearer, he graduated from Huntington (W.Vir.) High School with the Class of 1945. He then entered the armed forces serving in the U.S. Navy.

In 1946 the family moved to Marshall County and on April 21, 1946 Cliff and the former Barbara R. Charters were married in Bourbon, Indiana.

Cliff was known throughout the area as a clothing retailer with the Lauer’s Clothing store where he worked for over 20 years until its closing. In the years following he was a driver for many local auto agencies.

A longtime member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, he formerly served on the church Vestry and as a Lay Reader. He was also a member of the Plymouth American Legion Post 27 and the Plymouth Moose Lodge 741.

He enjoyed the game of golf, was a former member of the Plymouth Country Club, a huge White Sox fan and had coached his sons B – League team in two wining seasons. Caring for his lawn was never work for Cliff, but something he truly took pride in doing.

Surviving is his spouse Barbara, of nearly 60 years and two sons and their families; son Greg Shearer and wife Patty of Plymouth, with their childen: Johna (Jeff) Snyder of Bourbon and great grandchildren; Ryan, Lauren and Hanna and Gina (Brent) Wesolowski of South Bend and great grandson Jack. Son; Dave Shearer and wife Cathy of Plymouth, and five step grandchildren also survive.

Cliff is survived by a sister Dreama (Charles) Tener of Bourbon and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Billy Shearer and infant Bobby Shearer.

Friends are invited to visit the family on Sat. March 11, 2006 from 9 – 11 a.m. in the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 412 N. Center St., Plymouth were a funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. following visitation. The Rev. Fr. John Schramm will officiate.

Burial will follow in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts may be given in lieu of flowers to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 112 S. Center St. Plymouth.
