Helen L. Deziel, “Granny,” 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2024, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on February 13, 1938, in Lansing, Illinois, she was the daughter of Walter C. and Angeline B. (Galeck) Demerling. She attended Lowell High School in Lowell Indiana graduating with the class of 1956.

Helen worked for Aker Plastics for 5 years, retiring in 1999 after relocating from Houston, Texas. Although Granny was known for being brutally honest and outspoken, she was a Christ follower to the end. Her dedication to the Neighborhood Center and to the First United Methodist Church will be forever admired by those who knew her well. Helen had a sweet disposition to her soul that always made you feel like family, and she leaves behind a legacy within her family that will be missed for generations to come. 

She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing cards, Bingo and had a strong passion for her Southwest Indian Collection.

Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Plymouth for 23 years.

She is survived by her daughters: Carol Wagers of Wabash; Janet (Lonnie) Wagers of Argos; sister Mary Black of Bonita Springs, FL; grandchildren: Angel (Eric) Guyse, Amanda (Gary) Potter, Rhonda (Gene) Harlan, Crystal (Jimmy) Jones, Tanya (Harlee) Smith, Rick “Spunky” (Hannah) Siqueiros, Laurie (Shane) Belcher, 18-great-grandchildren and 7-great-great grandchildren.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Angeline, children Deborah Siqueiros and Ronald Pollock, sisters: Joanie Hickman and Lois Nowlin, infant brother, grandchildren: Penny Wright,Tricia Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Joshua Pollock and great-grandchild Travis Wieringa.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 11-1 pm at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Lauren Hall officiating.

Burial will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563.
