Helen M. Savage, 95, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 at 12:40 p.m. with her husband right by her side at the Catherine Kasper Life Center, Donaldson. Born the daughter of John and Florence (Toth) Saprony on January 4, 1919 in East Chicago, Indiana, Helen graduated from Roosevelt High School with the class of 1936.
On October 28, 1944, Helen married Edward J. Savage in East Chicago, Indiana.
Helen was a wonderful wife and mother to her two children, Margaret and Joseph. She also gave many hours of her time as a volunteer for over 40 years at the Porter Memorial Hospital, Our Lady of Holy Cross Life Care and the St. Agnes Adult Care Center. Helen and Edward were members of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Valparaiso, Indiana and Helen a member of the Altar Rosary Society.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Edward of Donaldson and their children, Margaret M. “Peggy” (John) O’Rourke of Pittsburgh, PA and Joseph C. Savage of Alamogordo, NM, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: John and Nick Saprony, Rose Moldovan and Marge Kriston.
The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in the Ancilla Domini Chapel, 9601 S. Union Rd. Donaldson, Indiana 46513. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow in the church at 11 a.m. EDT with Fr. John Zemelko officiating.
Private family burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Cemetery, Valparaiso, with Rev. Joseph Pawlowski from St. Paul’s Church assisting.
