Herbert A. Keck

February 24, 1926 — November 30, 2008

Herbert A. Keck, 82, a lifetime resident of the Walkerton and Teegarden area, died of natural causes at 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2008, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.

Herbert was born in Teegarden on February 24, 1926. He was the son of James M. and Lydia E. (Matz) Keck.

He graduated from the Tyner High School with the Class of 1944.

Herbert served in the United States Armed Forces for three years in the European Theatre.

On February 26, 1950, in Teegarden, Herbert and LaVerne C. Lemert were married.

He was an employee of the Bendix Corp. in South Bend for 45 years, retiring in 1989, as the Chief Time Keeping superintendent.

Herbert loved to sing, read and do crossword puzzles. He enjoyed doing outdoor work around his home.

He is survived by LaVerne, his devoted wife of almost 59 years, and by their three sons. They are: Lorie A. ( Kathy) Keck, of Lost Creek, Kentucky, Robbie L. (Suzan) Keck, and Jamie R. Keck, all of Walkerton.

A sister, Treva G. (Glenn) Rodgers of Nappanee and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive as well.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Harley J. Keck.

Friends are invited to visit with the family and celebrate the life of Herbert from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, and after 7 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth and continue one hour prior to services in the church.

Funeral services for Herbert will be at 10:30 on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at the First Brethren Church of Teegarden where he was a longtime member. His sons, the Rev. Rob Keck and Lorie Keck will officiate.

Interment will be in the Morris Cemetery, west of LaPaz on U.S. 6 where military honors will be provided by members of the Plymouth American Legion Post 27.
