Howard D. Roush, 86, of 1371 Pine Road, Plymouth, a lifetime Marshall County resident, has died.
The owner/operator of “Howard Roush Door Sales” until January 1, 2000, Howard died of natural causes following an illness, at 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in the Bremen Health Care Center where he had been a patient since February 2 of this year.
Born in Marshall County on December 20, 1913, he was the son of Melvin and Minnie Johnson Roush. He attended Marshall County country schools.
On March 19, 1932, in Plymouth, he and Ruth Phillips were married. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 19, 1992, four months before her death on July 9th of the same year.
His family, his church and his love of woodworking were his life.
Howard was widely respected, his door business spanned northern Indiana, southern Michigan and as far away as California.
He enjoyed woodworking and farming. He could make anything. His furniture has become family heirlooms. At Christmastime, his grandchildren could always look forward to a handmade gift fashioned of wood.
Howard is survived by five children. They are: Gene D. Roush, Phyllis A. and John Dolph, all of Plymouth, Sallie S. and Richard Becherl, North Liberty, Barbara J. and Robert Stopper, Lakeville and Sharon K. and Donald McKay, Braintree, Mass.
Thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren together with Deloris Pippenger, a sister in Walkerton, Kenneth and Yolanda Roush, a brother in Plymouth, survive as well.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two grandchildren, two brothers, Roy and Harold Roush and a sister, Evelyn Yeagley.
Friends will be welcomed by the family at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, on Thursday, April 20, 2000, from 2 to 8 p.m. and for an hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Funeral services, conducted by Dr. Vaughn Sprunger, retired pastor and the Rev. Wayne Joyner, pastor of the First Baptist Church, North Liberty where Howard was a member, will be on Friday, April 21, 2000, at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Morris Cemetery located on Highway 6, west of LaPaz.
