Howard E. Mitchell

Howard E. Mitchell, 80, of 433 E. 18th St., Rochester, Ind., died following an illness, at 11:50 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2004, in the Life Care Center of Rochester.

Born in Mishawaka, Ind., on December 11, 1923, Howard was the son of William H. and Eva A. Stroup Mitchell. He attended Plymouth’s Washington Elementary School and moved to the Rochester area in 1968.

On September 20, 1942, in Hammond, Ind., Howard and Dorothy M. Ullery were married. Dorothy died on February 5, 2003.

A driver for various trucking firms for over 30 years, Howard retired in 1986. He derived great satisfaction from his work and enjoyed spectator sports of all kinds. Howard enjoyed playing the bass guitar, playing with his grandchildren and especially looked forward to family cookouts with apple pie a favorite.

He had been a member of the Blissville Church of the Brethren and then later the Akron Church of the Brethren.

Howard is survived by two daughters, a son and their families. They are: Connie Lou Mitchell, Rochester, Ind. and son Blake Mitchell; Sharon K. and Ed Willyerd, Lakeland, Fla. and children; Rhonda Carberg, Robyn and Gary Armstrong, Raquel and Dave Wyatt, and Nathan Willyerd. Monte D. Mitchell, Rochester, Ind. and children; Marlo and Rodney Hudson, Shayn Mitchell, Shanon and Tim Corn and Trey Mitchell. Fourteen great grandchildren also survive and the soon arrival of a great-great granddaughter.

Four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews survive. They are Charles W. Mitchell, Ventura, Calif.; Stanley (Pat) Mitchell, South Bend, Ind.; Robert E. Mitchell, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Rev. Glen A. (Sue) Mitchell, Plymouth, Ind. Marvin Mitchell, a half-brother living in Chicago, Ill., also survives.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Clarence H. Mitchell, a sister, Mae June Sullivan, Plymouth and a half-brother and half-sister: George M. Hammel and Pearl Dole.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 21st in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind.

Funeral services, officiated by Howard’s brother, Rev. Glen Mitchell, retired Assembly of God pastor and Rev. Erin Hurias, pastor of the Akron Church of the Brethren, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 22nd in the funeral home.

Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
