Irene Cripe

December 8, 1921 — October 18, 2011

Irene I. Cripe, 89, of 12355 Olive Trail, died at 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.

Irene was born in Burrows, Ind., Rock Creek Twp., on Dec. 8, 1921. She was the daughter of Nathan and Lilly Michael Taylor.

She attended Logansport’s Washington School until the 8th grade. In 1936, Irene and Harold E. Wood were married. Harold died in 1962 and she then married Marvin Cripe, who died in 1988.

Irene worked at the A&J Restaurant for 12 years and the Greencroft Nursing Home for 15 years. She also volunteered at Miller’s Nursing Home for a number of years.

Irene sang and played the guitar. She was a member of the Shiloh Wesleyan Church.

Irene is survived by her daughter Rebecca Gail (Jim) Griffy, Plymouth, and by her sons Buryl Wayne (Kathy) Wood, Florida and Neil Allen (Kathy) Wood, South Carolina and 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; a daughter, Elizabeth Burton; two sons: Harold (Tony) Wood and George Wood; three brothers, Charles, Jess and Jerry Taylor and three sisters: Ida Randoff, Leona Wysong and Maude Meek.

Friends are invited to visit with the family and share memories from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services for Irene will be held at 2 p.m. following visitation at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Brainertown Cemetery, Goshen, Indiana
