Jennie Castaneda died in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth, at 3:35 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. She was 87-years-old.
Born on May 15, 1920, in Gomes Palacio Durango, Mexico, she was the daughter of Gavino and Adelaide Ruiz Correa.
She attended school in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, until the 10th grade.
On July 23, 1947, in Scottsbluff, Jennie and Rolland Castaneda were married. Rolland died on November 25, 1993.
Jennie worked in Scottsbluff as a seamstress. After moving to California in 1955, she took a job at Woolworths’ as a cashier. In San Jose, Calif., she retired after working for two cleaning establishments as their seamstress.
Jennie enjoyed sewing, gardening and being with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Mothers’ Guild of Holy Cross Catholic Church in San Jose.
Jennie is survived by two sons and two daughters. They are Richard and Ruth Castaneda, San Jose, Calif.: Robert and Marcy Castaneda, Hayward, Calif.; Joann and Gene Duenas, San Jose, Calif.; and Jeanette and Mark Polk, Plymouth, Ind.
A sister, Sister Adelaide of the Mt. Carmel Home, Kearney, Neb., also survives along with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Rolland Castaneda, Jr., who died in 2000, two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be in the Oakhill Funeral Home, San Jose, Calif.
