John R. Ruff, Jr., 67, 7791 Tulip Road, Plymouth, died at 1:10 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2001, in Plymouth. John had fought a two-year battle with cancer, having been cared for at home by his loving family and most recently by Marshall County Hospice.
John was born in Plymouth on May 24, 1933, to John F. and Mildred C. Marsh Ruff. He was a lifetime Plymouth and Marshall County resident, graduating from West High School in 1951. John also had attended Purdue University.
John served with the U.S. Army at the end of the Korean Conflict, spending eighteen months in Okinawa.
On April 25, 1958, in Bourbon, John and Sandra E. Nye were married.
A residential building tradesman, he operated the John Ruff Construction Co. for many years.
In 1966, John joined the Plymouth Moose Lodge #741, where as well as holding many offices, and receiving their highest degree of “Pilgrim”, he served as administrator for fourteen years, until 1998. John was also a member of the Plymouth V.F.W. Post 1162, American Legion Post 27, and the Plymouth Eagles Lodge.
John enjoyed traveling, having been to Alaska and Puerto Rico. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
John is survived by his wife, Sandy, his father, John F. Ruff, three sisters: Patricia E. & Cleon Beatty and Carol J. & Dominic Brizzolara, both of Plymouth, and Janice K. & Michael Hall of Franklin, IN. A brother, David A. & Alice Ruff of Plymouth also survives, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N, Michigan St., Plymouth, IN. At 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, members of the Moose Lodge #741 will conduct a Ritual Service in John’s memory.
The funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Paul Nye, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2001 in the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in John’s memory may be made to the Marshall County Cancer Oncology Center, or to Marshall County Hospice.
