Joseph Procaccino, 88, of Soldotna, Alaska, died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday (July 3, 2010) at Heritage Place Nursing Home in Soldotna after an extended illness. He was born September 30, 1921 in Logansport, Indiana. Joe is survived by his wife Dorothy (Jacox) Procaccino of Soldotna, 2 sons; AJ (Donna) Procaccino, James (Sue) Procaccino, 4 step children Ellen (Carl) Kempf, Steve (Sharon) Nowicki, Theresa (David) Bollinger, Tom (Kathy) Nowicki, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granchild Michael Kempf, great-grandchild Lea Cage Rose Procaccino, and by 8 siblings Jim, Lou, Tony, Hank, John, Mary, Jeanie, and Angeline.
Joe served his country in both the Marines and the Army Air corps in WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a National Defense medal. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and belonged to the Operating Engineers Union for 45 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was an avid golfer.
Cremation took place in Soldotna, Alaska. A memorial service will be held at Johnson Danielson Funeral Home (Plymouth) on Saturday, August 28, 2010 with visitation at 10:00 AM and a memorial service immediately following at 11:00 AM.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery with Military Honors.
