She was born on January 23, 1939, in Bremen, Indiana to Roy and Nellie (Clabaugh) Franklin. She graduated from high school with the class of 1957. A dear friend would set Joyce and Wayne up on a double-blind date in 1957, which was love at first sight. They were married on May 9, 1959, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Plymouth and shared 65 years of marriage together. Wayne preceded her in death on September 13, 2024.

Joyce started working in a cafeteria while at Tyner High School and ended her career working in the cafeteria for Lincoln Junior High School. In between those years, she worked as a service clerk for Kroger Grocery Stores for 25 years

An angel sent from heaven adequately describes Joyce, she was selfless and put everyone else’s needs before hers. She showed her love through food, cooking, baking and canning, often teaching her own family her gift as well. Joyce enjoyed spending time in her flower garden making sure that it was immaculately well kept.

Joyce was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Plymouth, American Legion Post Women’s Auxiliary Post 127, Moose Lodge Women’s Auxiliary 721 and many years with the Marshall County 4-H.
