Katherine “Katie” Yazel

July 17, 1986 — August 30, 2009

Katherine “Katie” Yazel, 23, of Plymouth, died at 10:41 p.m., due to a pedestrian accident on Lincoln Highway West, on August 30, 2009.

Born on July 17, 1986, in Mesquite, Texas, Katie was the daughter of Audrey Petty – Landry.

A 2005 honors graduate of Argos High School, Katie was brilliant in every pursuit: she thrived as a graphic designer who accepted and conquered any challenge with ease. Music of all kinds was a great comfort to Katie, but she never forgot the music of her roots: Country and Western. Her compassion and nonjudgmental personality was especially evident as she cared for those people with special needs, specifically with Downs Syndrome. Katie loved all people, but her strongest devotion was for her brother, Bryan Atkinson. She is survived not only by Bryan, but also by her mother, Audrey Landry, both of Lake Jackson, Texas. While she took great comfort in kayaking and the ocean during the summer months, Katie enjoyed every season. Her spirit will be missed greatly during Indiana winters as it was during this time that she enjoyed the snow: she could be found shoveling out drive ways free of charge and making snow angels at every opportunity. Katie loved all things Spiritual: she constantly invited people to strengthen, contemplate, and encourage their faith. Her greatest blessings were given to those whom she chose as members of her surviving extended family, Chris, Pat, Hannah, Parker and Hope Miller and Bob, Bev and Lizziey Brown.

Friends are invited to share memories of Katie’s life at 9 am on Monday, September, 14, 2009, at Crossroads Evangelical Free Church, 1650 North Oak Road, Plymouth, IN. Funeral services for Katie will follow visitation.

Memorial gifts in Katie’s honor may be made to Crossroad’s Evangelical Free Church Special Needs Fund.
