Larry D. Birk, 58, died of natural causes at his residence, 4505 Olive Road, at 7:15 p.m on Wednesday, December 4, 2002. Born on March 16, 1944, Larry was the son of Ralph C. and Helena M. Fisher Birk. He attended LaPaz schools through the 9th grade. Larry was a life time resident of Marshall County and he made his residence with his companion, Jean Hooker After 30 years as a mechanic and driving truck, Larry retired in 2000. He enjoyed carpentry, mechanics and car racing as a hobby. An honorary member of the Blueberry Sams Chapter 63, he was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 27. Larry is survived by five sons and three daughters. His sons are: Tim (Laurie) Birk, Lapaz, ; Larry Birk, Brent Birk and Jody Birk, all of Plymouth and Jeffery Birk of Argos. His daughters are Margo (Bill) Wallace and Susan Birk, both of Plymouth and Wanda (Moses) Alvelo, in N.C. Three sisters, Norma (Devon) Dunnuck, Mentone, Ind., Dorothy M. Woolley, Plymouth and Esther (Harry) Paege, South Bend, also survive, together with two brothers, Robert (Wilma) Birk of Roann, Ind., and Ralph (Sue) Birk of Peru, Ind. 22 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchild also survive his death. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Eleanor Lowman. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2002, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 9, 2002, in the New Oakhill Chapel at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. The Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Salem United Methodist Church, Bremen, Ind., will officiate. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial gifts may be made in Larry’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
