Lawrence Ladd Culbertson

December 9, 1910 — December 22, 2001

Lawrence Ladd Culbertson, died of natural causes at 12:20 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2001 in the Michigan Masonic Home, Alma, Michigan; where he had resided since March of 1999. Larry was born the son of Lewis H. and LeNora Belle Greene Culbertson, on December 9, 1910 in Marion, Indiana. Raised in Marion, he was a 1928 graduate of Marion High School. On December 2, 1956 in Burr Oak, Indiana, Larry married the former Olive A. (Lee) Burkett. She survives and resides at the Masonic Home in Alma. Larry and his wife co-owned and operated the Culbertson Market in Baldwin, Michigan from 1960 to 1977. There he was a Past President of the Baldwin Rotary Club, and the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, also having served as a Lake County Commissioner. He held membership in the Baldwin Eastern Star and was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Cassopolis, Michigan. He had been a former employee of the South Bend Bendix Corporation for 17 years. For many years the Culbertson’s resided in Culver and South Bend, Indiana. Survivors include his wife Olive, a daughter, Starr and her husband Joseph Kachoris of Niles, Michigan and a son, Lawrence L. and his wife Jennifer of Spring Lake, Michigan. Eight grandchildren and six great-grand children also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold E. and William L. Culbertson.

As were his wishes, there will be no services or visitation, cremation will take place and his ashes returned to the Baldwin area he so loved. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Michigan Masonic Home, 1268 Masonic St. Alma, Michigan 48801.
