Lisa Ann Bloom Funfer

Lisa Ann (Bloom) Funfer, 49, of Plymouth passed away suddenly of an existing yet unknown heart condition on Saturday at 5:05 p.m. in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center E.R. – Plymouth. She and her husband Glenn made their home on E. Harrison St., Plymouth.

Ann was born on March 9, 1964 in Plymouth, the daughter of Tom and Linda (Abram) Bloom.

In high school she played sax in the band and was active on the swim team and graduated with the Class of 1982. She earned a Bachelor Degree in Management from Purdue University – West Lafayette. Later she completed computer studies at Ivy Tech.

Ann traveled to Japan where she taught English as a second language and it was there in 1992 that she met her future husband, Canadian Glenn M. Funfer and the two were married in Tokyo on March 11, 1994. That fall they renewed their vows on September 10th in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren. A beloved neighbor and pastor Rowena Markley performed the ceremony.

The couple continued to instruct in Japan until 1998 and then moved to Guam where she taught 6th grade science for two more years before returning to the United States in January of 2000.

Ann was an expert cook and while living in Japan was a food critic, writing many articles for the Nagoya Avenues magazine. She also took great joy in animals and flower and vegetable gardening, but above all loved her family. They are: Her loving husband Glenn, parents Tom and Linda Bloom of Plymouth, brother Thomas A. and wife Tina Bloom of Cincinnati, Ohio and their daughter Josephine Bloom.

Her father-in-law Ben Funfer of Winfield British Columbia, Canada and sister-in-law Lesley Wasyliw of Enderby British Columbia also survive along with two nephews Dyson and Jace.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Lisa Ann will take place on Saturday, December 28th from 1 – 3 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. There will be no formal funeral service.
