Lola F. Smith, 95, died of natural causes at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, March 22, 2004, in the Plymouth Nursing and Rehab Center. Born the daughter of Charles M. and Lovisa Maria Harris Munn on February 12, 1909 in Fulton County, Lola attended schools in Fulton County and Culver. She lived in the Rochester, Argos and Plymouth areas all of her life.
On June 15, 1930, at her parent’s home in Fulton County, Ind., Lola and Gordon A. “Gordy” Smith were married in a double ceremony with her sister Ethel and Gilbert Simons, by the Rev. Ralph Handchew. Gordy preceded her in death on November 12, 2001.
A homemaker, Lola helped her husband on the farm and enjoyed being a mother to their two daughters.
Lola loved to travel, and had been to Jamaica, and the Holy Land with the Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren Mission. She was very active in the Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren, where she was a deacon for six years, a member of the Yellowstone Club, and the church’s women’s fellowship. Lola was a former member of the Rebekkah Lodge, and Gideon Bible Society. She also enjoyed flower gardening, and grew many award winning flowers.
She is survived by her daughters: Doris L. Davidson, Plymouth, Ind. and Norma Jean and her husband Dwight Carlisle, Fresno, Calif.
Eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and five great-great grand- children also survive.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters: Clara Keesey, Ethel Simons and Georgia Rush, and a son-in-law: Don Davidson.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 26, 2004, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson – Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral Services will be in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2004.
The Rev. Alice Archer, pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren and the Rev. Dean Kagarise, former pastor,will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Marshall County Unit.
