His self-written obituary is – “The life of Lowell Andrew Metheny ended on June 30, 2018 – a life for which he leaves thanks to all whose efforts made it a good one for which he was much thankful. He has asked that there be no services or visitation because he wanted to leave life as simply as many who had no choice yet deserved much better.â€
Lowell was born the son of the late Joseph Andrew and Anna Jane (Rockhill) Metheny on February 17, 1924 in Bourbon, Indiana.
He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1942, then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from the North Dakota Agricultural College.
Lowell served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe, he was honorably discharged in April of 1946.
On December 28, 1952 in Amenia, North Dakota, he married Marjorie Mae McDonagh; she preceded him in death on November 18, 1984.
Lowell was a mechanical engineer with Bendix Corporation in South Bend, Indiana, for over thirty-five years.
Lowell loved to drive down to Kewanna, Indiana, everyday to meet with friends at “The Station.†He enjoyed attending the First United Methodist Church in Kewanna; immediately following Sunday school at the church, he would meet with friends at The Heartery in Kewanna.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law; Rebecca Lynn and Brian Thomas Alter of Ellettsville, Indiana, son; David Andrew Metheny of Bloomington, Indiana.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son; Brian Robert Metheny, brother; Ellis Metheny, and a sister; Elaine Ball.
Burial will be at a later date in the New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth, Indiana.
