Lucinda E. “Linda” York, 93, 730 School St. Culver, died at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, October 29th of natural causes. She had resided at Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver since 1994 and previously had been a long time resident of Hamilton Grove Village in New Carlisle , Indiana . Born on January 30, 1909 , near Tyner, Indiana in Polk Township , Lucinda was one of ten children in the Watson S. and Mary Alice Andrews York family. She graduated from Tyner High School in the Class of 1927 and was raised a member of the Tyner United Methodist Church . Following high school, Lucinda became the “Nanny” for the Davies Family of South Bend , Indiana , caring for the children and household for several years. She then moved to Connecticut , taking with her the talents she had developed and went to work as a seamstress for the Berger Garment Company of New Haven and retired after 25 years of service. Lucinda enjoyed life, family and friends, with whom she remained in close contact. She spent several winters in Sarasota , Florida . She loved being by the sea where her artistic ability was peeked through oil and acrylic paintings of seascapes, nature, flowers and birds. Most members of her family have one or two as a keepsake of her interests. Survivors include one sister, Beulah Y. Philbrook of Elkhart , Ind. and two brothers; Welcome “Frank” York of Lebanon, Ind. and Charles J. York of Franklin, Ind. and his wife Ruth; and a brother-in-law; Willard Burkholder of Tyner. Numerous nieces and nephews into the fourth generation of the York Family also survive. Preceding her in death were five sisters; Hazel J. Ellis, E. Merle White, Cecile R. Raffay, Mildred A. Baker and Winnifred N. Burkholder. One brother Aaron Wilbur York also has died. Family services will take place at a future date with burial in the Tyner Cemetery . Memorial gifts in Lucinda’s name may be made to Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver.
