Margaret Emma Wise, 84, died at 4:35 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 in the Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth. Her death followed an unexpected stroke which occurred on Sunday, April 19th. She was a lifetime Plymouth resident.
She was born October 22, 1924 to DeVere A. and Effie M. (Hooker) Wise. She graduated from LaPaz High School in 1942. Margaret then attended the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating in 1947. She traveled with three ladies doing home missionary work and then attended the united Pentecostal Church, teaching Sunday School because she believed Acts 2: Verses 38 and 39 and all of God’s promises.
Margaret worked at Borden Ice Cream Co. and Standard Oil Co. before attending Bethel College graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. While teaching at Lakeville Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School in Plymouth, she attended classes at Indiana University working on her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, graduating in 1961. She then taught Special Education classes in South Bend after receiving a certificate in Special Education at I.U. She retired in 1980 after teaching 23 years to care for her mother.
She enjoyed playing the organ, reading, oil painting and visiting with family and friends.
Margaret is survived by a sister; Elizabeth A. (Betty) Sowers and her husband Lowell. Four nephews: Terry L., Alan D., Timothy W., and Kevin M. Sowers along with four great nephews and six great nieces. Her sister-in-law; Wanda (Wise) Balsley also survives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother; Walter Wayne Wise and three sisters; Effie LaVerne Wise, Wilma Jean Wise and Virginia Faye Wise.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30th from 4 – 8 p.m. in her beloved United Pentecostal Church – House of Prayer, 12450 Plymouth-Goshen Trail, Plymouth, where services will be held on Friday, May 1st at 11 a.m. Pastors Ronald Humphrey and Paul Cecrle will preside.
Burial will follow in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
