Maridee A. “Dee†Brown passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, December 31, 2018, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Lifetime resident, Dee was born in Plymouth, Indiana on July 26, 1942 to Harry and Mary Ruth (Nelson) Girten. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1960.
On February 10, 1965, Dee married James E. “Brownie†Brown. Together with their families and friends, they shared 52 fun filled years. He proceeded her in death on March 7, 2017.
The “Little Banker†worked her way from being a bank secretary to a vice president in her over 50 years of service to the community. Dee loved working and meeting new and old friends every day. So much so that she kept putting off her retirement. She finally chose to retire from Centier Bank in December of 2012.
Dee loved sports: Purdue, the Cubs, the Bears and our local Rockies. She attended every grandchild’s sporting events, and many more after they graduated. To Dee, family was everything and she tried her best to be there for them in any way she could. She enjoyed attending band performances and plays at the high school as well.
She had the biggest heart, but never one that she boasted about. She supported both her grandchildren and many in the community, whether with finances or material objects, but always silently and from behind the scenes. However, don’t let her sweet smile fool you, Dee was a fiery pistol!
Dee’s giving heart led her to support the United Way early in her life, the Boys and Girls Club, and being a yearly Blueberry Festival volunteer. She was a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, and on many Wednesdays would play the “banker†for the nightly meals. She was a lifetime Delta Theta Tau-Zeta Zeta Member and a member of the Bridge Club.
Dee is survived by her five children: Michael & Theresa Brown of Columbia, SC and children: Aaron & Malinda and Amanda & Dan, David & Sherry Brown of Williamsport, IN and children: Chris & Cynthia and Emily & RJ, Scott & Jacqueline Brown of Lafayette, IN and children: Lauren and Rachel, Angi & Tim Eads of Plymouth and children: Alex & Amy, Hannah & Brandon and Elliot, and James Edward “Ted†& Carol Brown Jr. of Plymouth and children: Taylor and Jordan; 8 great-grandchildren: Damian, Jadeyn, Tristian, Jaxtyn, Isabella, Natalia, Ozzy and Nora. Her siblings include: Larry (Aimee) Girten, Bill (Donna) Girten, Anne (Dave) Houghton, Patty Girten and Bob Girten.
Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Brownie, parents, Harry and Mary, and sisters, Janie Girten and Lynn and Steve Jacox.
