Marie D. Palumbo, 95, who made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Rosemarie and Walter Wozniak at 10181 Quince Rd., Plymouth, for the past seven years, having lived in Chicago for 88 years, has died. Marie died of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2001. She was born the daughter of Vito and Della Stolfa Altier in Chicago, Ill., on June 19, 1906. She attended Chicago schools. On Nov. 12, 1933, in Chicago, Marie and William J. Palumbo were married. William died on August 10, 1958. A homemaker, Marie loved to cook. She crocheted beautiful handiwork and enjoyed playing bridge and solitaire. She had favorite soap operas she liked to watch. Marie is survived by her daughter Rosemarie and son-in-law, Walter Wozniak, Plymouth, and by a son, William J. and Sue Palumbo, Denver, Colorado, and a daughter-in-law, Sara Palumbo, Scottsdale, Ariz. Called ‘Grammie’ by her seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, she was devoted to them all. They, and many loving nieces and nephews survive as well. Marie was preceded in death by her spouse and by a son, Robert Joseph Palumbo and three brothers: Daniel, Charles and Joseph Altier. A sister, Lucille Lungo, has died also. Visitation with the family to celebrate the life of their beloved mother and grandmother will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2001, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial for Marie will be at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2001, in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church of which she was a member. Father Tony Gillespie of St. Michael’s will officiate. Also at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 20, a dedication service presided by Darragh Connelly of Ireland will be held in the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 1400 S. Wolf Rd., Hillside, Ill. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. Memorial gifts in Marie’s memory may be made to the Foundation for Epilepsy or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
