Marty Goe Hogman, 48, died of natural causes, unexpectedly Saturday morning in the emergency room of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center – Plymouth Campus.
He was born in South Bend, Indiana the son of Robert R. and Betty M. (Eby) Hogman. Marty has lived most of his lifetime in Plymouth and graduated from P.H.S. with the Class of 1980 and attended Ancilla College. As a high school freshman he was a member of the State Championship Football Team and played all four years. Marty also lettered in Baseball as a catcher and has carried his love of sports into his adult life, teaching baseball skills to Plymouth youth as a travel team coach many years. He loved the Cubs, the Bears and remained an avid supporter of Plymouth Athletics as member of the Booster Club.
Marty worked for twelve years in auto sales, many at Country Motors and then at Lincolnway Auto Sales with close friend Rob Moore. He then completed training in the Field of Insurance and currently served as a representative of Humana, Blue Cross & Blue Shield.
Marty had attended the Plymouth Wesleyan Church and was a member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge.
He and his former spouse Terri Shafer are the parents of one son Braxton Robert Hogman, a senior at Ball State University, Muncie.
Also surviving is Marty’s one sister, Vaughnette L. (Jim) Wheeler of Washington State and one brother, Leslie R. (Claudia) Hogman of Westville, Indiana.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth where services will be held at 7 p.m. A graveside burial service will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in the New Oakhill Cemetery in Plymouth.
