Matthew James Morris, 18, a member of the 2007 Senior Class of John Glenn High School, died following an auto accident at 5:38 p.m. Sunday. Matt was recently accepted as a freshman into the Indiana University – Kelley School of Business.
A lifetime area resident, Matt was born in Plymouth on February 22, 1989, the son of James W. and Monica L. (Jaeger) Morris and resided with his parents at 5280 Redwood Road, Plymouth. Matt has received his education in the Walkerton Community Schools where he excelled as a high scholastic student athlete.
Matt simply loved people – his family, friends and educators, as well as his two dogs; Cobra and Maggie and most other animals that might come his way. Matt had his sights set on attending college this fall and assisted other students as a teacher’s aide and by tutoring classmates in various subjects with the goal of seeing others attain their ambitions in life. He volunteered as a ‘Big Brother’, served four years on the Student Council and as Class Treasurer, a member of FCCLA, the National Honor Society – Matt received a perfect Math score on the S.A.T. and competed in the Academic Decathlon. He had been a member of the Band and Spanish Club.
Soccer was Matt’s longtime chosen sport and served as Captain, he has also been a member of the golf team for the past three years. There was no hiding he was also a big Colt’s fan. Matt appreciated all types of music, paint balling with friends and his new sport of hunting. Matt is remembered by his family as having a loving heart who always awoke with a big smile and ended his day with a smile and a bed time; “I LOVE YOU”. They include his parents; Jim and Monica Morris of Plymouth, his sister Kara E. Morris a senior at Indiana University, maternal grandmother; Patricia R. Jaeger and paternal grandfather; Richard C. Morris both of Plymouth. Aunts and uncles include: Donna and Jeff Cohen, James and Abby Jaeger of Crown Point, Joanne and Mike Mulberger of Merrillville, Joe and Lynn Morris and Julie A. Morris all of Plymouth along with numerous cousins.
Proceeding in death was Matt’s maternal grandfather; Donald B. Jaeger, paternal grandmother; Joyce P. Morris and uncle Michael Morris.
Friends are invited to join the family in remembering Matt’s life on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 from 2 – 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth, where calling will continue after 7 a.m. Thurs. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5th in the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 S. Michigan St. Rev. Tim Davis, Walkerton Elementary Principal and Pastor John Branch of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

So that others may live or have an improved life, Matt had chosen to be an organ donor and his wish was granted by the Morris Family.
