Mattie Lee Brewer, 92, who has lived at 5997 Union Road, Plymouth, for the past seven years, coming from Newport, Kentucky, died, following an extended illness, at the home of her daughter on Thursday, October 5, 2000, at 9:30 a.m.
Mattie was born on December 24, 1907, in Stillwater, Kentucky. She was the daughter of George Washington and Eliza Jane Chaney Rose. She attended Stillwater schools.
On May 31, 1922, in Stillwater, she married Roy Gobel Brewer. Roy died on November 4, 1974.
During World War II, Mattie, also a homemaker, worked at Atkins and Pierce of Cincinnati, Ohio, making parachute cords for the armed services.
An active, involved woman she loved traveling. She would just up and get in the car and go! She saw most of the United States and enjoyed the west, Florida and Canada in particular.
She was a member of the Newport, Ky. Church of God for 33 years and belonged to the Silver Belles, a ladies group of the church.
Mattie is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Jackson of Plymouth. Fourteen grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 37 great-great-grandchildren and four great great great grandchildren survive as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters: two-year-old Hazel Brewer and Dorothy Sheppard and one son, Basil Brewer.
Six sisters and three brothers have also died: Ada and Fannie Brewer, Minnie Bush, Virgie, Odra and Ora Rose and Nelson, Ova and Rodney Rose.
Others who have preceded Mattie in death are: Jacob Brewer, a great-great-grandson: two great-granddaughters, Penney Feltner and Yalonda Warren: a great-grandson, LeRoy Feltner: a grandson and granddaughter, Rodger Dale Jackson and Melissa Smith.
Friends may call at the Blissville Church of the Brethren 6250 Spruce Road, Plymouth on Saturday, October 7, 2000, from Noon – 2pm. Services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jim Baker officiating.
Additional calling will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2000, in the Newport Church of God, Newport, Ky., where the Rev. Marion Woolum, pastor of the church, will conduct services at 2 p.m.
A graveside burial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2000, in O’Hair Cemetery, Trent, Kentucky.
Memorials in Mattie’s memory may be made to the church of the donor’s choice.
