Nettie L. Caldwell, 68, of 9976 16th Road, Argos, died at 4:20 a.m on Wednesday, November 26, 2003, following a long illness, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, Ind.
The daughter of Robert M. and Dora A. Conrad Vernon, Nettie was born on May 15, 1935, in Nashville, Tennessee. When she was a child, Nettie’s family moved to South Bend, Ind., where lived until moving to Argos two years ago. She attended Washington High School in South Bend, and later took training to be a nurse’s aide at Memorial Hospital.
Nettie worked as a nurse’s aide and a caregiver all of her life.
A talented artist, she enjoyed oil painting. She also enjoyed doing all types of crafts and wrote poetry. An animal lover, she took in and cared for stray animals. Her family was her life, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Nettie is survived by six children: Gloria J. and Danny Burrow-Barnes of North Carolina, Juanita K. and Charlie Wessels of South Carolina, Jerry O. and Irma Burrow, Jr.; Mack L. Caldwell; and Dawn and Steve Edmonds, all of South Bend, Ind., and Lynn and Jeff Tolson of Argos, Ind.
Eighteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister, Roberta L. and Eugene Candler of South Bend, Ind. also survive.
Family services will be held. There will be no visitation.
