Pearl I. Rice, age 97 of Lake Station went home to be with her Lord, Monday, March 24, 2008. She was a Lake Station resident since 1984 and was formerly of Warsaw, IN. She worked for the Warsaw School System, Jantzen’s Sportswear, Kresge’s Five and Dime and the Dune’s Acres Club House Restaurant. She also volunteered at the KC Hospital in Warsaw. Pearl enjoyed her family, traveling, gardening, and crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Mrs. Rice was born in Burket, IN, the eldest of 9 children born to Harry and Gustie (Foltz) Kepler
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior Ave., Munster, IN 46321.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Madalyn (John) Miller of Portage Township, IN; Juanita (Bruce) Ross of Lansing, IL; Betty (Jim) Klassen of Lakeland, FL; 1 sister, Emma Girten of West Palm Beach, FL; 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Rice Sr., 2 sons Harley Rice Jr., Alan J. Rice, 6 brothers, Henry, Ed, Frank and Emmanuel “Bill” Kepler, Adrian and John Doran, 5 sisters, Mary Zartman, Mabel Samuels, Emma Zolman, Stella Beatty and Betty Doran, 2 grandsons, Bryan Miller, and Timothy Rice.
Visitation is Thursday, March 27, 2008 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage.
Funeral services are Friday, March 28, 2008 at 3 p.m. EST at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan, Plymouth, IN with Rev. Gerald T. Walworth officiating. Burial will follow at The New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth, IN. There will be additional visitation at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1 hour prior to the service from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
