Former longtime pastor of the Plymouth North Salem Church of God, Rev. Stanley L. “Stan” Lawrence, 81, passed away Aug. 4 at Harrison Medical Center, Port Orchard, Washington. He was born Dec 21, 1927 to Elmer and Marjory Lawrence, New Paris, OH. He graduated from New Madison High School, New Madison, Ohio and then married Hilda Welker on Aug. 25, 1951.
In 1954, Stan graduated from Oregon Bible College in Oregon, Illinois. He served as pastor for 37 years to churches in Virginia, Iowa, Minnesota, and Indiana. In 2004, he retired from the ministry and the North Salem Church of God in Plymouth and moved to Port Orchard to be near his son and family.
Stan is survived by his wife, Hilda, son Bernie (Denise), Port Orchard; brother Robert (June), New Madison, OH; granddaughters Sarah and Holly, and step-granddaughters Kelsy and Abby.
He loved Bible study, playing dominoes, basketball games, working at Conifer Ridge Apartments – especially on the riding mower – and being taxi driver for his granddaughters.
Memorial services were held Sunday, Aug. 23 at 2:30 p.m. in Port Orchard.
