Robert L. “Bob” Scarborough

Robert L. “Bob” Scarborough, 69, 14568 Lincoln Highway, Plymouth, died suddenly of natural causes at 7:05 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2004, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. Bob was formerly from Grovertown, Ind., but has lived in Plymouth for the past 35 years.

Bob was born the son of David W. and Florence E. Tinkey Scarborough on May 19, 1934, in North Liberty, Ind. He graduated from Knox High School with the class of 1952.

From 1953 to 1956, during the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.

On June 22, 1961, in the Swedish Lutheran Church of Donaldson, he and Juanita “Nita” D. Peregrine were married.

Bob worked at A.M. General Corporation for 30 years retiring in 1998 as a supervisor. He was a member of the United Auto Workers.

A wonderful, attentive husband, father and grandfather, Bob lived for his family, yet never forgetting the importance of his Savior, Jesus Christ. A member of the Plymouth Baptist Church, he served on the Buildings and Grounds and Fellowship committees.

He loved to garden and could grow anything. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking, but his absolute favorite thing was to be with his beloved grandchildren. A great cook, his specialty was “Grandpa’s chicken”.

Bob is survived by Nita, his wife of 43 years and by their three children and four grandchildren: Jeff F. (Cathy) Scarborough, South Bend; Robert D. (Debra) Scarborough and children Dara and Dylan of Kewanna; and Darlene J. (David) Harrell and children Shelby and Noah of Plymouth.

Five sisters also survive: Bonnie and Lowell Grossman, Argos; Delores and Jim Freet, Grovertown; Jean and Rich Winkler, Grovertown; Carol and Tom Soltis, Orland Park, Ill.; Linda and Lewie Bachart, North Judson.

Two brothers, both of Grovertown, survive as well. They are: Larry and Lu Scarborough and Terry and Dawn Scarborough.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: David Scarborough and infant Richard Scarborough.

Friends are invited to share memories with Bob’s family on Sunday, February 8, 2004, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and for one hour prior to services on Monday in the church.

Funeral services for Bob will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2004, in the Plymouth Baptist Church, 11345 9A Road. The Rev. Doug Jividen, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, with military honors provided by the Plymouth VFW.
