Roena M. Yazel, 92, a Plymouth resident most of her life, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus.
The daughter of Harry and Nellie (Dawson) Wallace, Roena was born in Bremen on November 14, 1920. She graduated from Argos High School in 1938.
On October 12, 1941, Roena married Jacob J. Yazel in Plymouth. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1997.
She attended Plymouth Church of the Brethren, which brought her much joy to be a member of. Roena loved playing games, cooking and baking. She was always on the go, enjoying life and dearly loved her family. She also loved long car rides, reading, coloring and gardening.
She is survived by her children, Shirley A. Harner and Duane A. Yazel, both of Plymouth. Also eight grandchildren: Julie Weedling, Brian Yazel, Stan Yazel, Jimmie DeMien, Jason DeMien, Kelly Yazel, Kristen Yazel and Kimberly Yazel and numerous great-grandchildren. Her siblings include: Nadine Rice of Osceola, Alvina Florea of Osceola, Burton Wallace of Plymouth, Devere Wallace of Argos, Juanita Stapan of Plymouth, and Linda Sheets of Argos. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Roena was preceded in death by her parents, son, Dallas R. Yazel, daughter Connie J. Yazel, and three brothers: Clayton, Merlin and Derl Wallace.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth and at the church one hour prior to services on Friday.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, 1130 N. Michigan Street, with Pastor Ruth Yoder officiating.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery.
