Ross Harley Nifong, 72, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on November 17, 2024, in South Bend. He was born on June 9, 1952 in Plymouth to Cyrus and Loretta (Harley) Nifong.
Ross graduated from Plymouth High School with the Class of 1970 and quickly embraced a life filled with labor and dedication. He worked as a farmer, utilizing CASE Tractors, and also lent his skills as a truck driver for several manufacturing companies. Those who knew him admired his work ethic, as he was a man who could not be tamed—running his own life with fierce independence while constantly getting things done without slowing down.
A family man at heart, Ross found renewed purpose when he became a grandfather. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, especially indulging in shared interests of hunting and fishing with his grandson, Jayden. Memories of joyful days spent on the lake in his pontoon boat will forever remain precious to those who love him.
Ross’s adventurous spirit took him to various destinations, including Florida, North Carolina, New York, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Iowa, and Texas. He had a fondness for casinos, often visiting them with his friend, Dorothy and Rosie, creating countless memories at locations such as those in Las Vegas, Reno, Laughlin, and Biloxi.
An avid participant in tractor pulls, Ross was a proud member of the Northern Indiana Pullers and the IGTPG, where he found camaraderie among friends. He was involved with organizations like the Teamsters Local 135, FFA, and 4-H, fostering bonds that strengthened his connection to his family and friends.
Ross and Debra Haag exchanged vows on March 25, 2013, in Plymouth. Their love story, a decade in the making, was marked by deep affection. Together, they created a beautiful life and a legacy of love.
Ross is survived by his devoted wife, Debra Nifong; children, James (Justina) Nifong, Mark (Michelle) Nifong, Peggy (Jordon) Stamper, Jonathan (Chrissy) Miller and Katie (Michael) Day; grandchildren, Olivia, Jayden, Julia, Memphis, Oren, and Nora; siblings, Larry (Sarah) Nifong and Ron (Mary Clare) Nifong; former wife, Nancy Martin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
