Roy Penrose

Roy Penrose, 78, died of natural causes at 3:30 p.m. at his residence, 18146 Tahoe Trail, on Thursday, May 14, 2009.

Roy was born on December 27, 1930, in Spencer, Illinois. He was the son of Rosco Elvertis and Louise Etta Hursey Penrose.

He attended South Bend schools and worked at Heckaman Homes for over ten years He was the owner of MAP small engine repair for over 25 years retiring in 2006.

On August 15, 1977, in Plymouth, Roy and Mary Ann Baer were married.

Roy, a member of the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, served as an usher there.

He liked fishing and working with his hands. His friends said that he did not know a stranger and was a friend to everyone.

Roy is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, Plymouth, and by five daughters and two sons.

His daughters are: Linda Lee Hoffman, South Bend: Michallie (Steve) Forsythe, Bremen: Debra Freed, Nappanee, Donna (Mel) Hawkins, Nappanee and Laura (Phil) England, Bremen

His sons are Jason Allen (Debra) Penrose: and David Staton, all of Bremen,Indiana. Sixteen grandchildren and nine-great-grandchildren also survive.

Preceding Roy in death are his parents, a son, Roy, J and a son-in-law, Greg Freed.

Funeral services for Roy will be on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1314 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. The Rev. Steven Resner, pastor of the church, will officiate.
